Project Plan

By the time of the 2020 Innovation Expo, the team aims to have a functional fluid motion powered generator. While this may only be a prototype model, it is a necessity which will showcase proof of concept and design. Before beginning the prototype construction several factors must be considered in the design based on the determined needs and specifications. For this reason, the team will be following the standard product development process as seen in Engineering Design VI. As we are currently in the planning and concept development phase, the next step will involve detailed design on the systems level. This design should be finalized before initial prototype construction begins, therefore, extensive analysis and simulation will be completed throughout the design phase. For example, based on preliminary customer needs during the concept development phase, the group determined a target power output of 12-20 watts. In order to reach this goal, analysis must be conducted based on the specifications of the design along with the fluid’s current strength that the device is expected to be exposed to. With the completed preliminary analysis, alterations can then be made to the design to meet the target performance. At this point, prototyping and testing can begin with time to improve upon the design and update the prototype prior to the Innovation Expo.
